Legal & Ethical Issues
LEGAL
Issue
Solved or justified?
Drug Use
We want to have drug use in our music video; the drugs used will just be antidepressants and antipsychotics. Since these aren’t illegal drugs they shouldn’t be a problem will the law. This does inflict on ethical issues, which will be discussed below.
Copyright
Using the music in our video will inflict copyright, to solve this we found the contact details of the original artist which was the email address, we emailed them asking for permission and a few days later they replied allowing us to use it.
ETHICAL
Issue
Solved or justified?
Drug Use
The use of drugs like antidepressants will inflict on ethical issues because of the seriousness of the topic and that can offend people if we don’t take it serious enough so we have to be careful. Also overdosing on drugs is a serious issue because it can inflict suicide.
Mental Illness
The protagonist of our music video has schizophrenia and if we don’t take it serious enough people can get offended or think that this is what all schizophrenic people are like. So we need to be careful and possibly even research why schizophrenic people are like. We also would like to amplify the seriousness of mental illness; so raising awareness is a good thing.
Suicide
The climax of our music video is the protagonist committing suicide by means of overdosing on antidepressants and since this a very real topic we must take it very seriously because if we don’t people will be offended by it and that is the last thing we want our music video to do. We will also be able to raise awareness of suicide by showing how serious of an issue it is.
