Positives and Negatives of Using Social Media

Facebook

Positives
You can easily get into contact with people you know in real life because the majority of people on the site use their own names for their accounts so you can just use the built in search engine on Facebook to search for someone using their actual name.

Negatives
But some people have also found that it is incredibly easy to create a fake account and "groom" children, pre-teens and teenagers into meeting them in person and this is what leads to kidnapping, rape and murder that is so often heard on the news.

Youtube
Positives
Share videos that you made with the world, discuss in the comment section your own opinion. There is 300 hours of videos uploaded onto youtube every minute. Open Business opportunities for everyday people.
(advertisements, publicity, etc.) Innovation affecting the Music Industry, Entertainment and Media.

Negatives
So often the problem with websites like this is the community and YouTube's is no different and often the website is filled with the brim with "click bait" and false advertising. Legal and Copyright Issues, meaning videos are being completely removed from the website because of false claims or a fake company stealing money earned from particular video (Merlin is a known "company" that did this very often.)

Instagram

Positives
A very popular photo sharing website that is fast, easy and efficient. Instagram also asks user if they want to post the photo taken on other forms of social media such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr or they could just post to Instagram. Instagram also allows uses to take "world-class" photos from their phone.

Negatives
It can inflate people's egos, everybody can be a "world-class" photographer at a touch of a button, this has lead to criticism from actual photographers that it is devalues the art of photography and makes the acquisition and creation of a good photo much too accessible. Once everyone's a "world-class" photographer, no one will be.

Advertising

Facebook

A: How Facebook uses Advertising

Facebook need advertising to make a profit or at least to break even, with no membership needed Facebook uses advertising to make money. Adverts are pretty much everywhere on the site except for the login/sign up page. This includes on users newsfeed's some posts as you scroll down it are promoted ones that the a company paid Facebook to put there. Facebook uses cookies which means that users search and browsing history varies what advertisements they see.

B: How Facebook uses Viral Marketing

To the top right of each users newsfeed is a small section dedicated to trending topics and news stories. But on the phone version of the social media site the trending topics and new stories is in the search bar after you type something into it.

C: How Facebook uses Product and Service Review

Facebook Example

Twitter

A: How Twitter uses Advertising

Twitter is quite similar to Facebook in terms of advertising so adverts appear almost everywhere on the site except for the login/sign up page. There are adverts on users timelines, on the side of the page. The page also promotes some accounts along side of accounts that are recommended for the user to follow. The promoted to follow accounts pay twitter to promote them. Like Facebook, Twitter also uses cookies so the advertisements a users depends on their search and browsing history.

B: How Twitter uses Viral Marketing

Like Facebook twitter uses viral marketing mostly in the form of trending hashtag since Twitter started the whole hashtag thing single handedly. Something can become trending if it's tweeted a lot, retweeted a lot or hashtagged a lot sometimes something is all 3.

C: How Twitter uses Product and Service Reviews

Similar to Facebook Twitter can also have accounts that are created by a company so they reach our to their customers to give them services, help or updates on their products.
